MPEG-4 Part 14 or MP4 file format is a multimedia container format standard which comprises part of MPEG-4. It is widely used to store digital video and digital audio streams, mainly those defined by MPEG, but may also be used to store other forms of data including subtitles and still images. Due to the two different file extensions used for naming audio-only MP4 files there has been some amount of problems for both users and multimedia playback software. Since MPEG-4 Part 14 is a container format, MPEG-4 files have the capacity to contain any number of audio, video, and even subtitle streams, making it impossible to identify the type of streams in an MPEG-4 file based on its filename extension only. In response to this issue, Apple Inc. began using and popularizing the .m4a file extension. Software capable of audio/video playback are now mostly able to recognize files with either .m4a or .mp4 file extensions as there are no longer file format discrepancies between the two. Most software capable of creating MPEG-4 audio will enable the user to choose the filename extension of the MPEG-4 files that have been produced.
MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 or as it widely known MP3, is a patented digital audio encoding format that utilizes a form of lossy data compression.
A person may opt to convert from MP3 to M4A if issues of compatibility arise. Additionally the quality of M4A is better and file sizes are generally smaller than MP3 files. Instructions

1. First you will need to download and install the program to a known location
2. Launch setup and follow the on-screen instructions to install the application.
3. Select the option to convert single files or a complete folder. In this demonstration the single file option will be explored.
4. An [Open] system dialog should appear on the screen. Scan the folders where your MP3 files are stored and then select those that you want to convert to M4A and then click [Open]. The files will automatically be added to the conversion list.
5. Once the [Open] dialog closes you will be redirected to the main window.
6. Make certain that the files are selected. If none were selected, click a file in the list and press “Ctrl” + “A” on your keyboard. In the [Output format] area, set “Format” to M4A and adjust quality settings (sample rate, bit rate, mode, VBR/CBR among others).
7. To make things easier for yourself, you can select a preset from the dropdown list right below the area.
8. Select a folder to save the converted M4A files by using the [Destination] field. If you do not make a selection at this point, the M4A files will be saved to the folder that is commonly used to store your MP3s.
9. To finish the process, click “Start” to begin converting MP3 to M4A.

While MP3, WAV and WMA are audio files, MIDI is not. MIDI files have in them descriptions on how to make music, but not the music itself. 5. The program’s main window will be visible after the Wizard is closed. In the workspace, one window represents waveform of the original MP3 file. The other window shows the results of the spectrum analysis. Sections are usually notes, and this is where the sound is most intense. The application recognizes notes and highlights them using borders. You may adjust, merge, delete and add new notes directly in this window. You may also adjust instruments and preview the tune.
6. Click the ‘save’ button to save the resulting MIDI. Trial versions of WIDI Recognition System Professional will only permit you to save 10 seconds of your tune. You may remove this restriction by paying for the product and entering your personal key.

MP3 is a widely used compression format used for audio files on computers and mobile devices. The MP3 file format is excellent for storing good quality audio into small files. On the other hand, MP4 is a new container format, which allows users to combine various multimedia streams into one single file. MP4 is a streamable file format and it supports all sorts of multimedia content. With the new popularity of the iPod and Playstation Portable, users with MP3 files were faced with the problem of what to do with them since the new devices played audio and video in the newer MP4 format instead of the MP3 file format. 1. Install your audio/video conversion program. However, do make sure that it converts MP3 to MP4 and not MP4 to MP3.

This form of file compression provides a suitable method of storing DVD quality movies at an effectively small size to optimize storage. DivX is a brand name of products established by DivX, Inc. or as it was formerly known DivXNetworks, Inc. A recordable DVD stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video, including various audio tracks in formats like stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS. If the quality is lowered it is possible to store several hours of video on a recordable DVD using low bit rates and low resolution with video quality more like VHS, SVHS, CVD, VCD or SVCD.

1. Open DVD Flick and click the Add title button to the side to add your MP4 file.
2. After the MP4 file is loaded a yellow bar to the left will indicate how full the DCD disc is. Note though, that DVD Flick will auto adjust the bit rate so that you may fill a disc with less or more content. However, it is recommended that you do not exceed 3 hours of play or the quality will be diminished considerably. Click Edit Title while the video is selected to move on to the next step.
3. Go to General Settings. There, make sure the name of the movie or episode is typed cleanly, as this is what will appear in the DVD menu. Fix the other settings to your liking.
4. After this, choose accept.
5. Close the Title settings screen and in the main window launch the Project settings dialogue by clicking the button with the same name. In the General Settings make sure that the Target size is at 4.3GB, and set the number of Thread count according to your CPU. After, click the Video tab. Here, set the Target format depending on what your DVD player supports. Target bit rate should be set to Auto fit. Finally, choose the Burning tab.
6. Adjust the settings to your liking then select Accept to return to DVD Flick’s main window. Once there, click the Menu settings button on the toolbar.
7. Make all the necessary adjustments then double check everything. When you are sure you are ready to convert the file, click the Create DVD button in the main window to start the conversion.

A Portable Document Format or as it is more commonly known PDF, is a file format created by Adobe Systems in 1993 for the purpose of document exchange. PDF is basically used to represent two-dimensional documents in a way that is independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system. Each PDF file is comprised of a complete description of a fixed-layout 2D document (and, with Acrobat 3D, embedded 3D documents using U3D) that is inclusive of the text, fonts, images, and 2D vector graphics which make up the documents. To convert a file from PDF to text you can employ either of two options. Firstly you may choose to copy the text directly and paste it into a text document editor or use a conversion software. For this example a conversion software known as A-PDF Text Extractor will be used to demonstrate how this may be performed. To extract text from a PDF file using A-PDF extractor you will only need to follow three simple steps.

1. First select a PDF file once you have opened the program.
2. Select the option to extract text which will be easily seen in the tool bar. You can also select the exact pages you would like to use.
3. Once the file is extracted you can then save it to the choice location.

To extract a text from a PDF file using the copy and paste option follow these simple steps.

1. First click on the selection option to copy the areas you want to use. This option which will be slightly different from that seen in your ordinary text editor.
2. Once you have clicked on the selection tool, highlight the areas that you wish to copy.
3. When you have completed highlighting this area copy the information by clicking on the copy option that will allow you to copy to clipboard.
4. Open your text editor, in this case word, and select the paste clipboard option.
5. You will notice that the formatting will be lost. You will need to manually reformat the text yourself.

To extract text from a PDF file using the A-PDF extractor, the PDF file must meet the following requirements listed below:

• The file has been formatted to contain text and not just images.
• The file should not contain any security restrictions which will not allow text selecting. If however, you encounter this problem you may deactivate the security by using the A-PDF Restriction Remover.

When using A-PDF extractor, text formatting may be lost after extracting from the original PDF file.

RM which means real media, is a streaming media file format that was made first by Real Networks Company who is also the maker of Real Audio, Real Video and Real Flash. RM formats main feature is that, different compression ratios can be made according to the data transfer rate of the network. RM file extensions are ‘.rm’ and this format is most often used in conjunction with Real Video and Real Audio. It is also widely used for streaming content across the internet. On the other hand, the MP3 format is a compression system for music. It helps in the reduction of the number of bytes in a song without noticeably affecting the quality of the song’s sound. The MP3 format file, with similar sound quality, can cave disk storage space in comparison to some other audio file formats. To play a RM file, a real player or a special newly developed player is generally needed, since ordinary players do not support RM files. However, MP3 audio file format is widely supported by media players, so for those wanting to keep the audio part of an RM file only, it is useful to draw the audio data from the RM file, and retain it as an audio file format that can be easy to play.

Many people who are the owners of cellphones generally grow tired of the limited variety of ringtones that are available on most cellphone models. For others they simply desire to hear their favorite song being played when their cellphone rings. However, whatever the reason for wishing to convert a song to a ringtone there are a number of methods that can be used to achieve this goal. Depending on the phone that is being used conversion can be a quick and fairly straightforward process. However, if your phone does not have this technical advantage you may still rely on your computer and an appropriate conversion/editing software to create your new ringtone. Two methods of creating ringtones from songs will be briefly explained below.

For Creating a Ringtone on your Computer
1. First you will need to download and install a copy of GoldWave from the official homepage, if you are not using gold wave then download and install the prefered program. Open the program once the installation process has been successfully completed.
2. Click on the [Open] icon in Goldwave’s toolbar. You may use the explorer menu to browse for a copy of the song you wish to convert into a ringtone.
3. Use GoldWave’s [Control] menu to listen to your song in full and also to choose the area of the song you would like to convert to a ringtone.
4. Right click on the part of the song where you would prefer the ringtone to start. Click on the option that reads [Save Start Marker] to designate the ringtone’s starting position. Right click on the part of the song where you wish to stop your ringtone and apply the [Finish] marker.
5. To remove the areas of the song that is unnecessary click on the trim button.
6. Select the [File] option in the upper right corner of GoldWave and then choose [Save As] from the menu.
7. Use the explorer menu to identify a location to save the ringtone, name this file and then click on the [Save] button. Your ringtone is now ready for use, simply access it by going to the predetermined destination.

For Creating a Ringtone using iTunes

1. Go to the menu bar at the top of iTunes, enter [view] and then go to [view options].
2. Make certain that the box “ringtones” is checked.
3. Automatically, all the songs that can be made into ringtones may be identified by the little bell that may be found next to them.
4. Click on the bell that is associated with the song of choice.
5. Select the length of the ringtone and the portion of the song you want to use as the ringtone.

MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 or as it is more popularly considered, MP3, is a patented digital audio encoding format which employs a form of lossy data compression. The lossy compression that is used in the MP3 algorithm is designed to profoundly lessen the amount of data needed to represent the audio recording while still sounding like a substantial copy of the original uncompressed audio for the majority of listeners who use this format. An MP3 file that is developed using the setting of 128 kbit/s will produce a file that is about 1/11th the size of the CD file created from the original audio source. An MP3 file can also be composed at higher or lower bit rates, with higher or lower resulting quality.
Video CD which is almost always abbreviated as VCD, is a standard digital format utilized for storing video on a Compact Disc. VCDs are able to be played in dedicated VCD players, most modern DVD-Video players, personal computers, and within some video game consoles. The VCD standard was established in 1993 by Sony, Philips, Matsushita, and JVC and is considered the White Book standard. Video CDs are authored using the Mode 2/XA format, allowing an estimated 800 megabytes of VCD data to be stored on one 80 minute CD in comparison to 700 megabytes when using Mode 1. This in combination with the net bit rate of VCD video and audio, means that an estimated 80 minutes of VCD content can be stored on a conventional 80 minute CD, 74 minutes of VCD content on a regular 74 minute CD, in essence it may use the exact amount of time specified by the CD. The VCD standard also provides the user with the option of creating DVD-quality still images/slide shows with audio, at resolutions of 704×480 (NTSC) or 704×576 (PAL/SECAM). Version 2.0 incorporates the playback control (PBC), which features a simple menu akin to DVD-video.
Sometimes it may be necessary to convert a VCD to MP3 for increased compatibility with a generous range of products and also as a better storage solution. To accomplish this you may use any software that is capable of converting from VCD to MP3.

1. Make sure that you have an MPEG decoder installed. For the files that are encoded with the 1.1. or 2.0 format install a DVD player like WinDVD or PowerDVD which will have the correct VCD encoder.
2. Install the conversion software in this case Audio/Video to MP3 Maker.
4. Once it has been installed open the program and click on the [Open Media File] button.
5. Once you have inserted the VCD into the CD/DVD drive, you will find the directory named MPEGAV in the VCD. In this directory, there will be some VCD files named AVSEQ01.DAT, AVSEQ02.DAT or MUSIC01.DAT, MUSIC02.DAT etc.
6. Open the VCD file to be converted in the program.
7. If you want to convert the complete audio from the VCD file, then set the Output File if necessary, and then click on the [Convert] button.
8. If you would like to convert a portion of the audio from the VCD file then drag the slide bar directly, or alternatively click on the [Play] button to preview the media file and then set the Start Time and the End Time. To complete the process, click the [Convert] button to start converting to mp3.

• Do not shut down your computer while the files are still being converted.

Windows Media Audio or as it is also referred to WMA is an audio data compression technology created by Microsoft. The name may also be used to refer to its audio file format or its audio codecs. It is a proprietary technology that makes up part of the Windows Media framework. WMA is comprised of four distinct codecs. The original WMA codec, which is known simply as WMA, was formulated as a competitor to the popular MP3 and RealAudio codecs. WMA Pro, which is a newer and more advanced codec, supports multichannel and high resolution audio. A lossless codec, WMA Lossless, compresses audio data without loss of audio quality. As well as WMA Voice, which targets voice content, utilizes compression using a range of low bit rates.

2. Once you have downloaded the conversion program open the downloaded file to commence installation by double clicking on the file icon. The downloading process should be relatively quick and free of problems, refer to any instructions or read me documents that were packaged with the software if you encounter any problems.
3. Once the program has been completely installed it may open automatically if not click on the [Video] tab in the main program screen. It is useful to note that though you will be doing a simple audio conversion a MP4 can also be used for video formats. However, it will still play the audio WMA file once converted despite the lack of a corresponding video format.
4. Click on [All to MP4] option. A new window will be displayed. Choose [Add File] and then search for the WMA file you wish to use in the browse window.
5. Double-click on the file once you’ve located it, and click on the [OK] button in the Add File window. You will be once again taken back to the main screen, where the conversion will be highlighted
6. Click on the [Start] button at the top of the screen to start the conversion process. The blue status bar will display the progress of conversion and will indicate “Completed” when the task has been fully executed.
